A superb antique carved figural entryway with double-doors, ten feet tall and dating from the mid to late 1800’s, from a courthouse in central Ohio. Ornamented with people, birds, and lions, this entryway features exquisite work and amazing symbolism. The figure on the far left-hand side holds a sword and a book, representing Justice, authority, and the law; a woman in the middle holds a mirror, for Truth; and the lady on the right holds scales, symbolic of Justice and equality. Lions’ heads at the upper corners stand for victory. Horizontal panels in the middle of the doors are ornamented with birds, leaves, and other carved detail. Large panels in the lower half of each door feature unidentified winged figures. This entryway is in very good antique condition with a few small wooden buttons missing as shown. In addition, a hole for door hardware has been filled on the left-hand door (noticeable only upon close inspection), and there is an opening for a letter slot on the right-hand side of the entryway. This entryway measures 79-1/4†wide, 10 feet tall, and 15†deep (all measurements approximate).
