Victorian, circa 1880 Majolica garden seat decorated with Numidian cranes standing amongst reeds and bulrushes on paneled cobalt ground. Bamboo border around the top. Cut away handle to the seat. Mottled green and brown interior. ''NUMIDIAN CRANE'' impressed on one side of the base, and ''STORK'' impressed on the other side. Similar piece illustrated on page 116, Abrams ''Majolica A complete History and illustrated Survey'' by Karmason & Stacke. Good. No cracks. No hairlines. Flakes to the exterior. Slight wear to the cobalt ground and around the seat edge. Kiln effect: brown glaze run to the exterior. Restored chips around the base, and one to crane neck. Retouching to the seat, around the handle. 20ins high, 14.5ins wide at base
