This is a magnificent antique boxed newel post, dating from the late 1800’s and made of oak. The newel begins with a substantial, turned cap, with some delicate carved floral detail below. One side of the newel features a finely detailed flower surrounded by leaves; two other sides feature an unusual carved diamond pattern. Below, the edges of the newel are ornamented with column-like detail, with vertical grooves between. This box newel post is in very good antique condition, with a few scratches and chips (pictured). The newel is 55 ½†tall and 7 ¾†wide.
