A gorgeous late 19th century mahogany newel post turned and carved from a single piece of wood. It has a balustrade-form body, a smooth base above which are inverted acanthus leaves, topped with an egg-and-dart detail. A smooth section separates the egg-and-dart detail from the intricately carved Art Nouveau organically flowing leaves and berries crowned with classic beading. The newel post has an opening at the top where originally set a newel post light. It is also notched on the back where it sat against the stairs and where the handrail attached. The newel post is in very good antique condition. It is 6'' in diameter and 59 '' tall. Status: For Sale Reference#: nnp14_rw Condition: See Description Year: See Description
