Magnificent antique bureau plat, circa 1840. This magnificent French 19th century bureau plat has King wood and various other high quality wood inlays. It has 3 drawers and 3 faux drawers on the other side. All of the metal work is Dore bronze including the metal trim that runs from the bottom of the legs all around the side of the desk. The central portion of the sides are adorned with 2 Dore bronze mythological heads wearing a wreath of berries and leaves on top of their heads. The faces have moustaches and long hair. The mounts at the top of all 4 corners are beautifully carved rams heads attached to lovely floral decorated scrolls. There is also beautiful gilt bronze mountings attached to the feet. The beautiful serpentine legs are in exquisite proportion to the magnificent design of this royal bureau plat. The gilt bronze drawer handles are beautifully cast as well as the floral gilt bronze cast decorations that further adorn this treasure. Height 29-1/2 inches, length 42-1/2 inches, width at widest point 24 inches. The top has its original leather inlay along with a custom made bevel glass top. The woods that comprise the structure of this bureau plat radiate a warm glowing patina. This bureau plat has been refinished with the French polish treatment. The wood glistens like glass. All of the gilt bronze work has been carefully cleaned and is in the same condition now that it was originally made in the early 1800's. This bureau plat is worthy of the most discriminating connoisseur's collection and awaits its new owner to treasure and enjoy. (Item #51262)
