This is a superb rare pair of 18th century American Queen Anne highly-figured bold tiger maple New England rush side chairs. The tall elegant bold tiger maple backs are complimented with tasteful blocked and turned front legs, simple bulbous turned front and side stretchers ending in solid one piece superbly carved Spanish feet. Each chair is joined with mortise and tenon construction throughout. The refined Spanish feet are carved from the solid, NOT pieced out. This attention to labor and detail was an active procedureof craftsmanship associated with the Gaines schoolin Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Although worn in areas, each chair appears to retain a substantial amount of its original surface. Mellow nut brown amber patina. Attributed origin: Eastern Massachusetts or coastal New Hampshire Circa: 1740-1760. Height: 41'' Each chair has survived in a superb state of preservation. Overall excellent condition, without any damage to the Spanish carved feet.
