This outstanding pair of Louis XV Style Bergere Arm Chairs from the last quarter of the 19th Century. The thin well formed exposed fruitwood carved frames step in along the crest, flowing into the half-wings that make up the tufted barrel back of the chair. The full arms are upholstered along the top, curving into reeded handholds over curving arm supports flanking a thick and comfortable loose cushion. The aprons are partially upholstered, stuffed over the frame and edged by a curvy molded apron. Each leg is cabriole, carved with floral decorations along the knees and terminating in soft french toes. The backs are exposed with a single mid stretcher supporting the frame, tenoned at the top and bottom to give outstanding strength to the overall structure of each chair.
This is just a delightful pair, something any decorator in the Louis and French Country taste requires for completing living and sunroom designs. Soft and comfortable with a nice mellow green upholstery, sturdy and strong in all joints, this is a pair that can be enjoyed regularly and practically without concern about fragility. They have a wonderful finish and absolutely glow in the right light.
Measurements: 29" wide x 31" deep x 33 5/8" high; 18" high to seat
