Beautiful set of 4 antique English carved rosewood dining or parlor chairs, imported from England and dating back to C.1860.
Each chair has hand carved scrolls accentuating the elegant shape of the curved back. The sides and front of each chair also feature the hand carved scroll work.
The front cabriole legs boast beautiful hand carved acanthus detail and the back legs are a long curved continuation of the chair back.
The chair seats and backs are upholstered in the original brown leather with studded trim. There are some small tears in 3 of the chair seats but as you can see in the pictures they are not very big. The padding is still comfortable and in good shape so they could most definitely be used as is.
There has been a very old repair to the top back of one chair shown in the pictures. As you can see it has aged well with the chair and only adds to it's character and charm.
These chairs display pure Victorian grandeur with a touch of elegance. They are constructed of solid rosewood which has developed a wonderful aged patina with minor wear and flaws appropriate for their age. They are in solid, sturdy condition.
Dimensions: width 20 1/2", depth 21 1/2", seat height 17", back height 34 1/4".
