19th century Black lacquer with gilt Word cabinet from South China, Zhejiang. In excellent condtion the Black lacquer has aged wonderfuly showing only little signs of worn through to wood. The Panel doors display four imortals with ausipsious fish, lobster, crab and sea Dragon (Li) also with floral motif and caligraphy. Most word cabinets were used for for the storage of books and scholars objects. This piece has It going On. Full lower apron, humpback struts on the sides, and the legs have melon molding detail.
