This is a needlepoint English gentleman''s footstool. It has ebonized black wood legs and a needlepointed top of classical design including gold geometric and floral patterns. The top is either faded in blocks or the pattern was gray in some parts, I can''t tell. I bought it in Manchester in the 1990''s and used it as a display piece in my now closed antiques store.
