This is a highly desirable Foot Stool or diminutive Vanity or Window bench of the Louis XVI taste, Continental with a possibility of a French or Belgian origin. It is a square form, featuring a beautiful silk upholstery in excellent condition, stuffed over the frame and tucked at the edges. The apron of the stool is molded with applied gesso designs, the centermost of each apron with a floral motif flowing outward into the apron, and on each corner a circular wreathe with a tied bow on top. The stool rests over four turned tapered and fluted legs, terminating in small ball feet.
With a very convenient height of 17 1/2", this is a perfect supplement for any french chair or sofa in the formal sitting room. It is sturdy and strong, visually striking with a wonderful tarnished patina to the gilding. This is an outstanding find for any decorator or interior designer looking to finish that small space or add substance to a French or Louis XVI style chair.
Measurements: 20 3/4" wide x 17" deep x 17 1/2" high
Condition Report:
Visually Outstanding Condition
Reupholstered, overall fabric in excellent condition with only the most minor of stains/discolorations. The underside of the stool fabric is torn and hanging slightly - will need to either be removed completely or replaced. Gesso loss of rosettes on some corners as well as some rebuilding of gesso on corners. Regilded, though now heavily tarnished. Used to have caster wheels under feet, these now absent. Overall a very handsome, sturdy and stable stool.
