Very interesting medal of Gustave Flaubert
Made by the famous sculptor RAOUL LAMOURDEDIEU
French sculptor and medallist. He studied at the art school in Bordeaux and then at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Paris, under Alexandre Falgui?re and Alexandre Charpentier. His work includes a series of bas-reliefs for the war memorial at Soissons, a fountain for the gardens of the Petit Palais, Paris, busts of General Brun and Pierre Rameil, as well as a number of standing figures, including The Enchanter. Although professor of stone-carving at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, he was also active as a medallist. His early plaquettes include the Awakening (1907), Food (1910) and Metallurgy (1912). Later portrait medals include those of Jules Verne (1929), General Patton (1946) and Paul Dukas (1950).
