The gold coinage of the Ayybid rulers was primarily at Cairo and Alexandria, cities governed by the chiefs of the family. Provincial mints ruled by lesser members of the family were restricted to striking silver and copper. Al-Mansur Muhammad succeeded his father in 1198, but died the following year. His dinars were also of the standard “two circ1e†design with his name Muhammad/ibn 'Uthman on the reverse. The concentric rings filled with lovely Arabic script create a mesmerizing effect. They are as striking and intriguing as the person who chooses to wear something so unique. - (FJ.6305)
