Historical Context: This coin was minted in Alaesa , Sicily during the 4th Century BC. Sicily is located off the southern tip of mainland Italy in the Mediterranean Sea and was a Greek coloney during this period. Due to its geographical location, it was an important commerical maritime and military port. Many (Most) Ancient Coin collectors consider coins of Sicily during this period as the most beautiful of all ancient coins.
