Historical Context: This coin was minted by the ROMAN EMPIRE around 330 AD. The obverse (front) of this coin is ROMA, patron goddess of Rome. The reverse is the "She Wolf" and twins. According to legend, Rome was founded in 753 BC by twin brothers, Romulus and Remus. They were said to have been the off-spring of the god Mars and Rhea Silvia. Upon birth they were abandoned in a Reed Boat on the Tiber river. The She-Wolf found the abandoned boys as raised them. The reverse scene is the She-Wolf suckling the boys. Later, the twin boys fought over whose name would be used for the city. Remus was killed and the new city, Roma, was named after Romulus.
