THIS IS A MAGNIFICENT AND VERY RARE 18TH CENTURY PAGODA TOP LONGCASE CLOCK WITH THE ALL-OVER ENGRAVED AND SILVERED BRASS DIAL. THE STRIKE/SILENT REGULATION SET IN THE ARCH, THE SECOND HAND IN THE CENTER AND THE MONTH CALENDAR AT THE BOTTOM. IT IS SIGNED JOHN PEACOCK, LONDON WHO WORKED FROM 1765 - 1794. THE MAGNIFICENT CLASSIC LONDON CASE WITH BEAUTIFULLY FIGURED FLAME MAHOGANY VENEER HAS BEEN RESTORED TO A BEAUTIFUL PATINA AND HAS A FINE RICH COLOR. THIS CLOCK IS VERY UNUSUAL IN THAT IT HAS A FIVE PILLAR MOVEMENT, INSTEAD OF THE USUAL 4 PILLARS OF THE LATER CLOCKS. ONLY THE BEST CLOCKS OF THIS PERIOD HAD 5 PILLAR MOVEMENTS. THE CLOCK IS DRIVEN BY TWO BRASS ENCASED LEAD WEIGHTS CAREFULLY MATCHED AND A MASSIVE BRASS CASED BOB TO THE PENDULUM WITH A GRADUATED RATING NUT. THIS CLOCK PROBABLY REPRESENTS THE LONDON CLOCK AND CABINETMAKERS EFFORTS TO PRODUCE THE FINEST POSSIBLE CLOCKS, STIMULATED TO SOME DEGREE BY INCREASED COMPETITION. THE 5 PILLAR MOVEMENT HAS BEEN FULLY OVERHAULED BY A MASTER CLOCKMAKER AND HAS A 2 YEAR WARRANTY.
