DESCRIPTION:
Here we have another stunning longcase clock from Cheshire Grandfather Clocks. This is fabulous antique oak eight-day brass faced, longcase / grandmother clock, which is of the most exquisite petite proportions. This century old piece has been created in exquisite Jacobean style. It is extremely rare to find a grandmother clock which is super quality weight driven which adds to the special quality of the lovely clock.
The case is also wonderful being made from solid oak which has the most fantastic patina. The whole case including the back board is all solid oak.
If we start with the hood this has a flat top which is finished off with a lovely cornice. Lovely delicate barley twist columns flank the hood door with nice back splats. If we then move down to the trunk this has beautifully full-length door which has the most fabulous geometric mouldings. The door is complete with it's lock which is fully working and which has the most wonderful decorative key as can be seen in the photographs. As with the trunk door the base incorporates some superb geometric moldings and is raised on bun feet.
The eight-day movement striking on a gong, has a square brass face with a silvered chapter ring marked with large Roman numerals with small Arabic numerals above. The four corners are adorned with beautiful cherub spandrals whilst the centre incorporates beautiful engraved floral design. The face is beautifully clean which made it extremely difficult to photograph.
The case has the most exquisite patina which is difficult to convey through photographs.
The clock is happily ticking away, and keeping good time. The movement is nice and clean as can be seen from the photographs. It comes complete with its weight, pendulum and winding key.
DIMENSIONS:
The approximate dimensions are:
- 71 inches high
- 13.5 inches wide across the base
- 9.75 inches wide across the trunk
- 15.25 inches wide across the hood (across cornice).
As can be seen from the above dimensions this clock is of lovely slim and petite proportions.
AGE:
The clock is circa 1900.
CONDITION:
The clock is in superb condition as can be seen from the photographs, just minor marks commensurate with age and careful use. The clock is happily ticking away, and keeping good time. The movement is nice and clean as can be seen from the photographs.
