A very fine antique English porcelain plate, by Flight, Barr & Barr. This colorful Flight, Barr & Barr pattern is the "Lady With A Parasol" pattern, the English interpretation for porcelains that were just making their way into the English markets. The decoration depicts a court lady, holding a parasol, in an open garden among flowering trees and exotic birds. The choice of colors..... bright turquoise, green, red, purple and pink on pure white porcelain creates an exceptional and bold design. Beautiful gilt accents create an added sense of drama to the design. The plate is marked on the reverse "Barr Flight Barr Royal Porcelain Works, Worcester London' House No,1 Coventry Street". "Manufacturers to their Majesties." These brilliantly painted and designed porcelains of the late 18th and early 19th centuries was a great status symbol, becoming the height of fashion in the early 19th century. both in England and in The United States. The plate is in excellent condition and measures 8.25" wide.
