At the beginning, the idea and the technique were simple, it was enough to run water on natural objects (leaves, pottery, ...) so that they will petrify over time. But soon, Jean Serre had the idea to reverse his approach by developing a molding technique, allowing him to make real small paintings, having the finish close to the IV. For this, he solicited artists who worked to design sculptures from which were made copper matrices Jean Serre and Michel Papon, creators of a craft: limestone inlays It was his son-in-law, Michel Papon, a passionate and an artist in his trade, who perfected the technique, notably by the work of the Gutta Percha, a vegetable gum allowing to realize models of "undercut" offering an irreproachable quality of the renderings. Over the decades and since the beginning of the nineteenth century, 7 generations have succeeded one another to develop this true craft of art whose excellence in know-how is recognized by the label "Entreprise du patrimoine vivant".   « Less
