For Sale -- Bronze Japanese Koro and Cover (incense burner), with a high brass elements. It is a globular form cast with Ho-o birds on the main body and Rain Dragon handles. It stands 10 inches high on four stub feetaand is surmounted by a domed cover with a Shishi holding a tasselled bell in it mouth.
Ho-o is an exotic mythical bird and a Shishi is the Japanese equivalent of the Chinses Dog-of-Fo or lion dog.
There are no marking visable. Most likely made in the late 19th or early 20th century 1880-1910. Brought home from Japan by my Great Aunt in mid 1930s
