Heian period (794 CE-1185 CE) Japanese bronze mirror with a raised border. It features a pair of cranes with the male feeding the female crane. The design signifies the eternal marital unity (the cranes mate for life) and a symbol of the heaven, also longevity and good luck. Green patina is present on the surface. Scattered pine needle are present and in addition to the crane symbolize long life and good luck (kissho). A central minogame (boss) is in shape of a turtle that also symbolizes the longevity and the earth. Very rare Japanese antique artifact. Diameter: 4.5" (11.5 cm.).
