Germany
1904, printed after 1931
Kathe Kollwitz (German, 1867-1945) is regarded as one of the most important German artists of the 20th century (a great deal of information about her is available online - www.kaethe-kollwitz.de/ , for example). She began producing etchings in 1880, and from 1898-1903 she taught at the Berlin School of Women Artists. It is believed that this work - the original of which was created in 1904 - is from the von der Becke edition, printed between 1965 and 1972 from the original plates. The dimensions given below are for the framed piece; the image size is 12 1/2" x 13".
