This small painting done in watercolor shows a stone staircase winding up along a wall. The garden of the house at the top of the stairs is suggested by the tall lilac tree behind the stone walls. The style of the architecture and the the quality of the light in the brilliant colors are typical of the the south of France. There is a fold line running diagonally across the painting, more visible from the back than from the front, and two tears, one on the fold line on the righ edge, and one center top. These will not show once this piece is framed. One of the other paintings is dated 1960-61, and they all appear to be done around the same time. This one is on a heavy watercolor paper.
