Eduard Alexander Hilverdink (Dutch, 1846-1891), oil on wood panel, 9" x 12.75", signed lower left 'E. Alex Hilverdink.' Second half 19th century. This painting depicts Dutch homes facing onto an Amsterdam street along the Singel River, with a Dutch draw bridge and the famous Munttoren (Mint Tower) in the background. Eduard was born in Amsterdam, son of the Dutch painter, Johannes Hilverdink, under whom he also studied. Eduard is best known for his landscapes and urban views, and his works are widely collected today. His paintings are in the permanent collection of the Rembrandt House Museum in Amsterdam and in other galleries and collections of that city. The painting is offered unframed and is in excellent condition. On the reverse of the panel is an unfinished sketch.
