Very rare authentic well preserved ancient bronze horse bit Persian Achaemenid, circa 550-400 B.C. Composed of two separately cast crescent-shaped Cheek Pieces with knob terminals, large rings for bridle attachment, two pierced holes on each side and mouth piece made with two rods linked by the loops.
This rare object comes from an old Canadian collection of Antiquities and Art.
The other only know related Achaemenid Horse Bit is in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, however our horse bit is of much higher quality and in better condition.

CONDITION: In its original good condition, showing the age and usage, with nice green patina. The Cheek Pieces with the single knob finials on opposite side are not broken, but were designed in this manner. The Horse Bit in the Metropolitan Museum of Art also has single knob finials.
