circa: 2000 width: 60 height: 30 length: 36 This five-drawer mahogany writing desk is bench-made in England by a third generation cabinetmaker. The advantage of the writing desk design is its openness and broad desk top; this particular writing desk, unlike most, has five rather than three drawers, so this is a special design offering more storage space. Moreover, every aspect of this desk speaks of high quality and beauty. The mahogany, for instance, being treated to an elaborate hand-finishing process that includes distressing and polishing, display an incredibly rich grain and complexion that will be sure to grow more beautiful with time. Optional satinwood inlays around the desk top and drawer fronts complement the mahogany beautifully, while solid brass hardware also provides a nice contrast. The writing surface is composed of fine brown, green, black or burgundy leather bordered by hand-worked embossing and gold tooling, making a far superior desk writing surface than wood, glass or metal. Each of the five desk drawers features hand-cut dovetailed joints, so this desk is sturdy all around, while turned baluster legs provide strong support.
