Antique Georgian 18K gold, enamel, snake, hair, skull and crossbones Memorial ring. Made circa 1700. US size 6 3/4. Classic example of the continuous presence of life and death matters in the lives of the early Georgians. A gold and black enamel snake, symbol of infinity, coils around an oval reserve in which a skull and crossbones rests on the blond hair of the beloved. SHank has impressed foliate pattern, a little worn and may have once been enamelled as well. Good condition, especially considering the age.
