From a collection of toy soldiers, all believed to have been handmade somewhere in the mid 20th century. 14 soldiers on horseback: 5 brandish weapons and are unique; 9 on horseback, in uniform, identical to each other. Stand appox 2 inches high. Each horse and soldier is attached to an oval base. There are raised numbers on the base, but I do not know what their significance is. Fabulous detail. All seem to be in very good condition. The material (believed to be lead) is very soft and they can be bent very easilly. However, they can just as easilly be bent back into their original shape. Set of 10 magnificent handpainted lead soldiers in Parade Dress. Part of the estate of a vintage lead soldier collection.The tallest figure, holds the banner at 3 3/4inches. Height to the top of most dress helmets is 3inches.Each figure stands/walks on a green, angled base. Smart white tight trousers with a stripe along the side and a sword on the left. Royal blue jackets with gold buttons and epaulettes, red cuffs and collars. Some figures play musical instruments and others carry flags (Prussian/Russian?) and standards. They are handpainted in rich enamel. The detail is outstanding - from the expression in the eyes to the rosy cheeks and moustaches. All in wonderful condition. Elastolin and Duro Composition Toy Soldier Reichsheer Band 7 Pieces circa 1935-36 O & M Hauser (Elastolin) was founded in 1904 in Ludwigsberg, Germany and was one of the market leaders in composition figures. (These figures are made of various materials, most commonly a mixture of sawdust and glue molded around a metal armature.) During the ‘30s, the company moved to Neustadt bei Coburg, the center of the German doll and toy industry and acquired the assets of some of its competitors. They developed new techniques thet allowed them to manufacture hundreds of different and difficult poses and the period from 1932-1942 was considered “The Golden Age” of composition figures. It was also a time of national fervor and Hauser emphasized the production of German army figures for which they are best known today. Duro figures are second-grade Elastolin products made in Czechoslovakia. This early 7-piece Reichsheer band from the 1935-36 period consists of the following: Elastolin (composition) Flag Bearer Elastolin Drum Major Elastolin Trumpet Player Elastolin French Horn Elastolin Side Drummer Duro 2 Flutists They are rated as in excellent condition.   « Less
