Victorian, circa 1860 Pair Staffordshire spill vases (possibly matched - different height and decoration), each modeled as a zebra standing in front of a tree with a snake entwined around its body. Two legs molded free. Dull gilt base line. Similar pair illustrated figure 3116/3117, page 267, Schiffer''s ''Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875'' Book 2, by A.& N. Harding. Generally good. Slight rubbing to gilt. Right facing: Kiln effects: shrinkage crack to underside; craze lines to reverse. Retouching to snake and right side of zebra''s face. Left facing: Restoration to reverse of spill top. Retouching to snake, ground and spill rim. 8.75ins high
