Victorian Era "Fainting Couch" or Chaise Lounge
Genuine Antique, from 1860-1880 period
Upholstered in raised velvet floral, carved wood side arm and feet. Rounded back support and end. Still stuffed with the original straw. Split in wood at one foot. This item has been in the owner's family continuously since her great-grandmother bought it circa 1870.
These pieces originate from a period when women wore corsets that would actually restrict their breathing so much so that they might faint. A couch like this might be found in a lady's boudoir or dressing room. Similar items sell at antique stores for $1,900.
