Historical Context: These coins are silver karshapanas. These coins are likely from the Kingdoms of Maghada, Mauryan, and Sunga. With regards to Maghada, several Kings in succession were named Nanda, thus, this Kingdom is sometimes referred to as the Nanda Dynasty. The last Nanda was put to death by his chief minister, Chandra Goopta, who served in the Army against Alexander and later headed an insurrection against the Greeks to oust them from the Punjab.
