This very fine Fauteuil features a bright blue floral damask upholstery, replaced and in nearly flawless condition. The finish is simply glowing, recently re-gilded and in stunning condition. It features a full medallion back with a molded rope frame, two upholstered demilune arms curving from the back into curled handrests. The arms rest over curved supports with wonderful acanthus leaves that flow along the entire support and into the square rosette medallions at each corner of the frame. The upholstered seat is deep and comfortable, stuffed over the rail and framed in an exposed apron with figure-eight infinite molding over repeating beads. The chair rests over turned and tapered legs, each brilliantly formed with a near-trumpet form and highlighted with deep stop fluting, resting over spherical turned ball feet. The back feet have a wonderful splay to them. Each joint of this chair is completed with pinned tenon-mortise construction, these visible beneath the gilding either by outline or visible through the chipping of gilt.
In stunning condition, flawlessly formed and with an outstanding upholstery, this is a very fine chair for any formal setting. Whether it is used as a chair in front of your desk, in the bedroom before the dressing table, in the library beside a wall of books or in the living room with an eclectic collection of mixed styles, this is a chair that you will treasure and enjoy for a lifetime.
