SOLD Antique 18th -19th century Silver mounted Turkish Ottoman Islamic sword Yatagan-Yataghan. A curved single – edged blade, cut with slender fullers along the back-edge, and decorated on one side in silver koftgari, with a panel of Arabic calligraphic inscriptions, and foliage on the other. A silver hilt terminating in characteristic ear shaped pommels, decorated with an engraved design of scrolls and flowers, adorned with a raised knobbed design, and set with four domed studs (most likely a later addition), a pair of shaped panels extending over the forte that are damaged. In its original tooled leather covered wooden scabbard, stitched with brass wire
The Yatagan sword was very popular, not only in Turkey, but also in many Balkan states, and some Eastern European countries such as Ukraine and Hungry.

MEASUREMENTS: The overall length with the scabbard: 72 cm (28 3/8 in).
CONDITION: The silver hilt is damaged, a hole and splits on the joins of the silver pommel, and panels on the forte. Traces of old repairs.
