Exceptional gold gilt laquered antique Japanese shrine mirror that came out of the inner sacred chamber of an Aizu shrine, the home of Hideyoshi's castletown. Inscripted on the bottom with the date 'Kouka 3' 1846 and signed by 'Hokyo Moriyuki' Hokyo being the honorific title bestowed on a master artist. The inset mirror has the characters reading 'Tenkaichi Fujiwara Yoshitsugu' and 'Chidori'. Great condition with normal age wear. 1846. (22" x 15") (56cm x 38cm).
