Julio Venegas - Duda (Doubts) - Original signed acrylic on board circular painting. ulio Venegas was born on September 22 1946 in Central Violeta, (a sugar factory town) Camaguey, Cuba. In 1969 he moved to Havana in order to study fine art at San Alejandro Art School. While at school, he worked as full time salaried fine art painter for Cuban Ministry of Public Health. There he painted landscapes and decorative subjects for different departments of that ministry. In 1980 he emigrated to the United States during the Mariel Boatlift. Rather than settle in Miami, like many other fellow artists and writers, he moved to New York City where he felt he could better develop his art. Venegas is a prolific artist and his work has been exhibited at many art galleries and cultural places as Sareido Gallery, Soho, New York; Jadite Galleries, New York; Cuban Museum, Miami, Florida; Botello Gallerie, San Juan, Puerto Rico; Paterson Museum, Paterson, New Jersey; Watherholt Gallery, Washington DC, among others. His works including everything from traditional oil on canvas paintings, to painted sculptures made from recycled objects. Venegas has been working on different subjects, but always the psychological factor is evident on his works.
