GERMANY CIRCA 1590-1615THIS PAINTING HAS BEEN ATTRIBUTED TO HANS VON AACHEN(1552-1615) AND STUDIO. VON AACHEN WAS BORN IN COLOGNE AND STUDIED IN GERMANY WITH FLEMISH MASTERS. IN 1574, HE MOVED TO ITALY, TOURING FLORENCE AND ROME BEFORE EVENTUALLY SETTLING IN VENICE. HE BECAME A STUDENT OF KASPAR REMS BUT LATER DEVELOPED HIS OWN MANNERIST STYLE. IN 1588, HE RETURNED TO GERMANY WHERE HE BECAME A WELL KNOWN PORTRAIT PAINTER TO NOBLE HOUSES.IN 1592, HE WAS NAMED THE OFFICIAL PAINTER OF THE HOLY ROMAN EMPEROR, RUDOLF II. IN 1601,HE MOVED FROM MUNICH TO THE COURT OF PRAGUE WHERE RUDOLPH II CONFERRED KNIGHTHOOD ON HIM IN 1605. HIS PAINTINGS ARE FOUND IN MUSEUMS THROUGHOUT THE WORLD.
