circa: 2000 width: 60 height: 30 length: 36 This exquisite burl walnut writing desk is handmade in England by a third-generation cabinetmaker as a reproduction of a Georgian period antique. The burl walnut, which is treated to an elaborate finishing process that ends in a rich layer of hand-rubbed wax, displays the striking grain and complexion for which this variety of walnut is prized the world over. The leather, too, shows a rich complexion and grain that looks especially striking with the hand-worked gold tooling and embossing that trace the border of the leather. Walnut crossbanding and solid brass hardware contrast beautifully with the burl walnut and leather, while the fluted corners and square tapered legs also look wonderful. Conveniently, each drawer locks, and the center drawer face falls to reveal a finished keyboard drawer. The back features faux drawers. Because this writing desk is handmade using old-fashioned English techniques, it is as sturdy as it is beautiful, and will endure for generations to come!
